IPTV not working? How to find the problem and fix it
When IPTV is not working, the fastest route to a fix is to pin down exactly which part has failed. An app that won’t open, a login that’s rejected, a channel list that never appears and a channel that shows a black screen are different faults, with different next steps. This guide helps you name the failure, test the right layer and know when to contact your provider. If video does play but keeps pausing or stuttering, that’s a different problem with its own guide, linked below.

What “IPTV not working” can mean
“Not working” covers several quite different failures. Find the one that matches what you see:
- The app won’t open, or closes straight away.
- The login is rejected with an error.
- The login is accepted but nothing loads: no categories, no channels.
- Some categories are missing from the list.
- Channels are listed but won’t play: one, a group, or all of them.
- A black or blank screen where the picture should be.
- The programme guide is empty, while channels play.
- Everything worked yesterday and stopped today.
- Video plays but keeps pausing: that’s buffering, not this guide; see the buffering guide.
Start with the symptom, not the fix
It’s tempting to reinstall the app, reset the router or change network settings straight away. Each of those alters something that might have been fine, can wipe saved details, and leaves you unsure what actually fixed (or broke) things. Naming the symptom first tells you which layer to test: the player, your access details, the account data, a stream, the guide, the device, your home connection or the service.
| Symptom | Layer to check first | Useful next test |
|---|---|---|
| App won’t open | Player or device | Restart the device; check for app and system updates |
| Login rejected | Access details | Compare each field with your provider’s message |
| Login accepted, nothing loads | Account loading or connection | Wait, then reopen; try another device |
| Categories missing | Account data or player | Refresh the list; compare on another device |
| One channel won’t play | That stream | Try it again later |
| One category won’t play | That part of the service | Channels from other categories |
| No channels play | Access, connection or service | Another device; another network |
| Black screen | Stream, player or device | Other channels; another device or player |
| Guide missing, channels fine | Programme guide data | Wait for the guide to load; check guide settings |
| Works on another device | The first device or its player | Your device guide below |
| Works on another network | Home network or connection | Other internet use at home |
| Plays but buffers or freezes | Stability, not failure | The buffering guide |
This is a starting point for testing, not a diagnosis.
IPTV app not working or won’t open
If the player won’t open, crashes on launch or freezes before you reach the sign-in screen, the problem is almost always on the device, since the service isn’t involved yet. Close the app fully and reopen it, restart the device, and look for updates to both the app and the device’s system. If that doesn’t help, reinstalling from the device’s official app store is the next step, but it usually clears saved details, so keep your provider’s message to hand. The exact steps differ by platform; see your device guide below. If the app vanished or stopped working right after a system update, check whether the developer still supports your device.
IPTV login not working
A rejected login is nearly always about the details as entered, or the status of the access itself. Check each field against your provider’s message:
- Username and password: exact spelling and capitals, with no automatic capital letter added by the keyboard.
- Server address: complete, exactly as supplied, including the http:// or https:// at the start. Don’t switch between the two unless your provider says so.
- Port number: the digits after a colon in the server address, if your provider included them.
- Copied spaces: a space before or after a pasted value is invisible but breaks the login.
- The right login type: an Xtream Codes-style login and an M3U playlist link go in different places in most players.
- Access status: access that has expired or been suspended can produce the same error as a typing mistake.
If you’ve checked everything and it’s still refused, stop retrying: repeated attempts don’t help, and the details may need checking by your provider. For what these formats are, see what IPTV is.
Login accepted but IPTV not loading
Signing in and loading are two separate steps. First the service confirms your details; then the player downloads the account data (categories, channel lists and guide information), which can be large. If sign-in succeeds but the lists stay empty or incomplete, give the first load time, then close and reopen the player. If categories are still missing, check whether the player has a refresh or reload option, and compare the same account on another device: if the lists appear there, look at the first device’s player; if they’re missing everywhere, it’s a question for your provider.
IPTV channels not working
When channels are listed but won’t start, how many fail is the best clue:
- One channel: most likely that stream. Your equipment is probably fine, since everything else plays. Check it again after a while, and let your provider know if it’s still down.
- One category: possibly that part of the service. Check channels from other categories before changing anything at home.
- Many channels, but not all: note which work and which don’t; the pattern is useful to your provider.
- Nothing plays at all: test another device and, where practical, another connection before contacting the service.
IPTV shows a black screen
A black or blank screen can come from several layers: a stream that isn’t sending video at that moment, a player that can’t play that particular stream, a playback setting in the player, or the device itself. Check whether other channels show a picture; whether you get sound without picture; and whether the same channel works on another device or in another player on the same device. If a player offers a choice of playback or decoder settings, trying the alternative is a reasonable test, but don’t download modified players or tools that promise to “unlock” content.
Programme guide not working
The programme guide (EPG) is listings information fetched on its own, apart from the channels themselves. So a blank guide while channels play normally is a guide problem, not a sign the whole service is down. Allow time for it to load after signing in, check the player’s guide settings (some players need a separate guide address), and check with your provider that listings cover the channels you watch. Guide data can also lag behind or be missing for some channels.
Works on one device or network but not another
Another device is the most useful comparison. If the same account works on a phone but not the TV, the service and your details are probably fine, and the TV or its player is where to look: IPTV not working on a TV while it works elsewhere usually points to the TV’s player, its version or its connection. Use the guide for your device below. On a one-screen plan, end playback on the first device before signing in on the second.
Another network, such as a phone’s mobile data, tells you whether the problem is tied to your home connection. If it works elsewhere, look at your home network and router; it doesn’t by itself tell you why. Don’t assume your broadband provider is blocking anything, and don’t use tools to get round network restrictions.
IPTV suddenly stopped working
When everything worked and then didn’t, go step by step:
- Work out what exactly stopped: the app, the login, the lists or the channels.
- Try several channels from different categories.
- Check the same account on another device.
- Where practical, try another connection.
- Restart the player, then the device, testing after each.
- Check your access details and account status against your provider’s latest message.
- If it still fails on every device and connection, contact your provider.
Also think about what changed: a device or app update, a new router, or a change to your details.
What not to do
- Don’t factory-reset the TV or device as a first step.
- Don’t change several settings at once.
- Don’t change DNS or router settings at random.
- Don’t switch off device security or install cracked or modified players.
- Don’t keep switching between http and https unless your provider tells you to.
- Don’t assume straight away that it’s your provider, or your broadband company.
When the problem is actually buffering
Device-specific troubleshooting
Restarting, updating and reinstalling differ from one platform to the next. Follow the guide for your device:
What to tell your provider
If the fault follows your account across devices and networks, contact your provider. These details help them investigate quickly:
- the exact error message, if there is one;
- when the problem started;
- your device, and the player or app you use;
- whether the login succeeds;
- whether categories and channel lists load;
- whether one channel, some or all of them fail;
- whether you tested another device or network, and what happened.
Next steps
For set-up help on each device, see the installation centre. If you’re comparing services, testing on your own device, player and connection is the most reliable way to check a set-up works for you: you can request an IPTV trial and compare Streamlixa’s plans. Streamlixa’s login details are sent once you’ve paid, either as Xtream Codes details or as an M3U link to suit your app.
